NATURE & ARCHITECTURE
From the beginning of creation, human being was surrounded by nature.
Everything in nature is well organized and in harmony with the other parts of it. Through the history, nature has been always a source of inspiration for the human begin in different aspects of their life. Architecture as one of the remarkable features in every society cannot be separated from nature.
Nature are still playing an important role in architecture today.
For me, buildings are the mediator between man and nature, it can more earthly and more abstract, alluding to the form of the place, to things as they are combined, but also to what is beneath to the stable geological support, to a nature which is historally transformed, to a support, to a nature which is the product of thought, and which as a result of being frequented or settled has become a shared memory.
Therefore, we as the architect and designer is the artistic intermediary charged with creating a responsive, responsible architecture.
CASE STUDY:
MAKOKO FLOATING SCHOOL | LAGOS, NIGERIA | 2012
Makoko Floating School is a prototype floating structure, built for the historic water community of Makoko, located on the lagoon heart of Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos. As a pilot project, it has taken an innovative approach to address the community’s social and physical needs in view of the impact of climate change and a rapidly urbanizing African context. Its main aim is to generate sustainable, ecological, alternative building systems and urban water cultures for the teeming population of Africa’s coastal regions.
The Makoko Floating School and the total planned projects makes use of local materials and resources to produce architecture that applies to the needs of people and reflects the culture of the community.
Wood is used as the main material as the structure, support and finishing for the completed school. The overall composition of the design is a triangular A-Frame section. The classrooms are located on the second tier. They are partially enclosed with adjustable louvered slats. The classrooms are surrounded by public green space, there is a playground below, and the roof contains an additional open air classroom. NLE has also employed strategies to make the floating architecture sustainable by applying PV cells to the roof and incorporating a rainwater catchment system. The structure is also naturally ventilated and aerated.
What i found interesting about this case study with the nature is that NLE's design and development of a sustainable floating community and its UN support indicates that the community is looking forward to adapting a resilience to its architecture.
It is a building that transforms the place into architecture and establishes the original symbolic act of making contact with the physical environment, with the idea of nature as a totality.
Conclusion:
Human , nature and architecture are triangle three points that are not opposite, but combine and complete each other ; and by using experiences , nature sciences and techniques and creating a friendly bridge between human and nature by architecture help could create a trace that has nature inside its .
The main aim of using important nature achievements is that instead of recreating from alive fauna , study nature principles and their consistency because all things in nature are powers balance , so that world has structure , therefore architectures and experts commissions and trainings to find better solution for symbiosis with nature serves as today world need.
