HOW CONTEXTS INFLUENCE ARCHITECTURE
The role of context in today's architecture is a way to determine the architectural style, building material selection and site layout which is very important in creating an effective design. These promote continuity between the building and local circumstances. Futhermore, it is important to take into account the surrounding context locally and globally which in response to these contexts will create communication channels between buildings and people around. One of the issue that is now happening in all around the world which inherent political issue that has related to refugees where they are facing incapable in surviving in the country which they are now living due to lack of knowledge and basic skill that couldn't meet the working standards or even the language. This context is very crucial in order to allow architect to get involve so that this issue is able to solve and change which it is related to my case study, the communtiy centre in German refugee camp
built by architecture student by using the wood material. It is a pavilion that provides a sheltered communal area for refugees arriving in the camp located on the former US Army's Spinelli Barracks in Mannheim. Due to bureaucratic procedures, refugees arriving in Gremany are condemned to sustain a long period of passiveness therefore they are well provided with the bare essentials however the immediate area is quite desolate and lacking of quality common spaces. This is the context that had been found that in order to withsatnd this issue, the implementation of an appropriate architecture is needed to meet this social demands of the refugees as the solution would be perhaps more to human consideration instead of putting too much thought on climate context. Even though climate is always a most important strategy in contemporary architecture otherwise the building will be less comfort. The residents at the preliminary reception centre had the opportunity to actively shape their
environment and create a quality place for common or individual use which it is not just emphasize on separate use but the incorporation of both public and private which mentioned by Jacobs that she asserted the importance of an intricate and close-grained diversity of uses. This project also involved economical context where the large-format components were prefabricated in
like walls and roofs in the short-period of time, therefore it is kind of cost-effective
constrcution method where it costs cheaper with better quality as well as environmental friendly. Due to reason that it is a centre for refugees whom doesn't earn a better living so this project is funded through different ways and the insufficiency of material or money resources, besides it is also serves to the community which doesn't receive any paids from visitors or occupants so the consideration of economical context is based on the condition or situation of the local economy which is much influencing a lot in this project. In conclude, I agree that those context is actually influencing the architecture in nowadays where the consideration and research by collecting enough and crucial data is affecting the outcome of the design so that people will appreciate the architecture if designers respect their cultural or political issue and also the important trend that is now happened particularly in specific country or gloablly which it is more to be concerned in order to forged the intimate relationship between human and architecture more acceptable and satisfy.
