REVIEW OF CHARLIE SUTHERLAND TALK

Charlie Sutherland's project actually inspired me a lot not only from his explanation of his project but I somehow can feel the inspirational quality by just observing the picture he shown. First, I would like to talk about my opinion to one of his project named An Turas where the creation of experience and the incorporation of material with the environment is kind of interesting to me as from the picture we can see the walls are open to the sky which it reveals the beautiful scenery of the surrounding without enclosed it but in another act as protection against the wind.

Besides that, The

Loveshack is a good example of blurring the view between building and the forest which the used of local material is able to shown in this building. He also create a journey to the building where revealing a view from the leveling of topography which can be experience through climbing up the stairs that he had create intentionally. I love his design intention and the way he did is really applying architectural thought which it is very crucial for today's architecture development. The building embedded tightly to the nature and applying the thought of reuse and conservation of building and environment with no doubt that he is playing an important role in influences our younger generation whom can be learning from. He used to work as a team which I really agree that as to be a good architect, we need to learn how to corporate with each of our members to create a better work because working individually doesn't reveal the spirit of architecture, as building is a component that assemble by several system which is actually reflecting in our role as architects with no doubt.

He then explained about the Chengdu Museum which he actually work on site context and response to it appropriately, as to provide a space for community where the proposal includes a new undercover outdoor space, a monumental opening through the building offering a large covered space where people can gather, cultural evetns can take place and the market stalls can extend beyond the street located to the rear of the building. Utilization of sensibility in his project whom he explained that the long narrow site is exploited using all the public areas to maximize a dramatic relationship with the new square, the remaining facades consequently enclose the largely hermetic exhibition hall, these are represented as a giant crafted artefact in the city cloaked in a precious skin of copper alloy rigorously profiled to play with light, shade and texture whilst accomodating all the technical requirement for ventilation grilles. Overall, I would like point of my opinion to this talk which it actually inspired me a lot on the thinking approach in design or even the way of observe a building and to create no boundaries between environment and the building as to incoporate it as a whole by utilizing local materiality and also implement the superiority of site context in order to fulfilled the satisfaction of human needs without against the natural enironment.
