ORGANIZATION LEADS PROPORTION
The proportion and organization in architecture today plays an important role in design strategies which the role of proportions are dealing with human affect means that where large building will be able to include large members in contrary small ones will be small, however functionality of public and private space that determine the separation or connection between similar or dissimilar uses is the role of the spatial organization. Both of these actually consists a relationship in today's architecture because when a space that is designed to welcoming a large amount of people such as entrance hall or living room, the proportioning of the room should be larger than those private
space.
In my case study, I had chosen the Villa Gardone which is part of a villa ensemble in Gardone Riviera, Italy. The organization of the residence is actually sits on an east facing slope opening to south towards Lake Garda and prominently located on a site that offers unique views of the water, the city center and the surrounding areas which it is a good positioning where received indirect sunlight to comfort the interior space. The living room and bedroom are located within the top volume, this volume is placed perpendicularly to the slope to maximze the views toward the lake and also to take advantage of southern exposure and natural sunlight which it is quite similar to what Andrea Palladio had mentioned in his article where the raised upper part has the added charm that it can be seen from a distance and one has view from it. It is important to have this kind of organization in order to fulfilled the human inhabitation because the positioning that received sunlight is providing a source of warm to the occupants by applying the proportions of the space that able to create a spacious environment and creating proper dimensioning of the window is crucial for sufficient of light penetration due to its position of receiving sunlight indrectly. In contrast, the lower base like volume consists of a garage which is positioned parallel to the slope, opening up towards the access road. These volumes are then lifted apart from one another creating an intermediate level, which serves at the main entrance where likewise to Palladio where he is kind of favor to putting the important space that is essential for daily life in the lowest part of the building. In this case, showing that the necessity of organization is designed based on the important function needs where the space is then created to fulfilled the daily essential demands of the occupant itself, located in the lower part is beneficial for free flowing circulation between outside and inside. Beside that, every level has access to outside terraces with different orientations depending on their program, ultimately providing the users with varying views and privacy which the plan is designed freely with good space circulation whom Le Corbusier actually concentrate on and the placement of privacy and public is done appropriately to accommodate a proper function for occupants.
From the picture, I can see that the small bedroom is then divided up to create even
smaller rooms like toilets could be located which the proportion is based on the human inhabitant where the sleeping area is much spacious than the toilet because the circulation for enclosed space is need not to be more free flow compare to a sleeping area as the occupant amount that is usign it is lesser in comparison. To be honest, I fully agree that one part of the building corresponds to the other so that the whole body of the building would have an inherently suitable distribution of its members, making whole beautiful and graceful which I could observe and found in my case study here.
