EFFECT of BODY TO BUILDING
Nowadays, the relationship between building and body were actually interrelated because human proportions is the crucial standard and measurement to apply into the architecutre design where architecture is built for human inhabitant, is built to occupied human body. Human bodies consists several differences regarding size, age, gender, race and ability, these factors were affecting the standardization in architecuture therefore architects should take responsibilities in order to provide a series of application system and standards to fulfilled the satisfactory of human ability and demands in different age, size, gender and races. I had chosen one of santiago calatrava's project which is the HSB Turning Torso because it is the building that inspired by human body in a twisting motion.
The form of the tower is based on one of his sculpture, the Turnign Torso where he abstract the form of human movement into a stack of cubes positioned elegantly around a core which somehow interpret the abstraction way of human body on a building itself. Seven cubes were set around a steel support to produce a spiraling structural effect which the structure were representing the form of human's spine skeleton where the equivalent in the tower of the sculpture's steel support is the nucleus of internal elevators and stairs through which the box units communicate. This is kind of concept that building direct responses to the body but it is through a more mechanism interpretation way. Besides that, the core is a paintel steel column exterior truss standing apart from the main body of the building like an external spine act as strengthening and stiffening. This spine is attached each unit by large diagonal and horizontal steel struts.
These elements connect the spine to a structural wall at the top of the unit, transferring shearing force to the concrete to the core, this is kind of phenomenon that response to the ability of human skeleton structure that the main support helps to transfer force in no doubt. From the picture, I able to observe that the height of the room are actually proportionate to general human figure where the considerations is more precisely done to accommodate a large range of human bodies including women and men. As the standardization of the window and implication of standard furniture is well consider in order to fulfilled human body in different size, age, gender and race which the implementation of human proportions is to adopt the height of the tallest man, this involves the largest architectural dimensions; but it is better that a measure should be too large than too small so that the basis of that measure should be suitable for use by all metioned by Le Corbusier and I really agree with him in this point of view that using a general measurement is much more suitable for generals rather than applying different consideration on different height of people that will actually affect the standards of achitecture.
On the other hand, each apartment monitors heat and water consumption, allowing inhabitants to plan their energy and living costs. The flat's kitchen have organic waste grinding and disposal facilities that convert food waste into biogas energy which both of these concept were likewise to the operation of human's organs that each organs systematically has its different consumption of energy, seems clearly that there is a freely plan to each of every inhabitants same as different organs were freely operate in its own way without restriction. This actually shows that building metaphors of the human body system which no doubt that human should be restricted by the already built system as they can have a choice in choosing a better lifestyle.
