ACQUIRE, understanding by Mr. Hatta Ismail

The way that Mr. Hatta Ismail presented his works gives me a feeling that he actually putting effort and the passionate that reveals in his consistency of producing a different composition of his art but still remains its repetition in it. Maybe there is some hidden character that hardly to be observe from the people or the implantation of the thought into the his work is actually representing something which I am still confusing enough as an observer.

From his topic “ ACQUIRE, understanding “ in this PAM public lecture mentioning that the idea of relating senses to objects and spaces towards a consciousness allowing greater insights into art, object, form and space. This notion follows the gesture of sketching, of laying and repeating lines to bring about a deeper appreciation of those lines, and of the object or subject being drawn. The understanding of objects and spaces are furthered through this practice of appreciation rather than the conflicting interpretations inherent within them.

He started his talk by presenting his few of art and craft work which he emphasize on the used of paper that creates a different textures and forms of a wok and plate. He do mentioned that he likes to play with colors and when it added to his craft work it representing different thought on it. Primarily, his focus was more to the objects and visual expression of color and texture, to assist in the orchestration of objects and spaces, which are only a natural reaction to his intent.

After explaining his craft work, he then present the other medium that he apply to his art piece which it looks more abstraction in a way as an observer but I do hear that he said one of the art piece which is the one with two woman sitting on the rock and hardly to be seen that there is two woman lying posture in the drawing itself. He explained that it is not an abstraction for him but for me it is because abstract drawing do gives a message that is mildly and blur in way that is not direct. Futhermore, he talked about the rest of the drawing which uses the water color medium as his another creation of his art work, he doesn't give any good explaination on his art piece by just roughly talk about it.

He also invovled in architecture design which he also explained one of his work that gain my attraction which is the SILALIMA. It makes me reminds the similarity between the Barcelona Pavilion by Mies Van De Rohe but the used of ornamentation on the ventialtion block reveals the non-simplicity concept which I don't mind that if he had his way to pursue a combination if both. He has the initiative to bring out the architecture element which can be observe through his work. So far, I can't see his own identity that has implemetned in his architectural design concept.

SILALIMA by DIA

I would like to conclude that in this talk I actually gain no much inspiration because from my knowledge, I couldn't understand much of his depth thinking but I had already did my best to find out the meaning behind.
