ACQUIRE, understanding
“ACQUIRE, understanding” a lecture presented by architect Mohd Hatta Ismail, from Atelier DIA.Mr Hatta is no stranger to Malaysian design circles. An educator, designer, conceptualist, generalist and mentor to many, Hatta's work encompasses many interests and domains, driven by an inquiring intellect and deep passion.
The public lecture is mainly talk about the idea of elating senses to object and space, to allow greater insight into art, space and form. Focusing primarily on the intellectual functions of objects and visual expressions of colour and texture. Mr .Hatta always develop from the environment surrounding , everything can be his inspiration.
From the talk he shown us some artpieces develop from him which are the artbowl, art painting, sculpture that looks like painting, and architecture.
In beginning Mr Hatta started with an art bowl that he craft , the material he use are the material that environment surrounding him like recycle paper , acrylic and metal to create a sculpture , from the sculpture he defined that is it not only a bowl , it is a space that carrying water. In this situation show that the understanding of the material using and the view of the space.
From his painting, we can found that it is a very simple painting, just some color and texture, the paint can be a lot of definition. He said that he is painting the feeling and the view of him and difference person have his own thinking and view in abstract drawing . He stated that his painting not an abstract even though people seen that as an abstract.
After a few talk , he goes on to architecture , which is SILALIMA and MUSUEM SULTAN ABU BAKAR, for the MUSUEM SULTAN ABU BAKAR he mention that all the design are according to the space , the space planning make the museum more clear and clean , it not like a traditional museum.
Besides that, he then talked about his design SILALIMA ,in his design he using a high concrete wall to control the view and descend the noise apart from the road. He mention that he like to slice the space ,so that the space will be more interesting and functionality. He is also convert his courtyard into a big pond ,the purposed of the pond is cooling down the temperature. He always apply green in indoor and outdoor , he believe that people are comfortable living with nature environment.

In conclusion ,Mr Hatta is an architecture that love in art and craft ,and also a nature environment . He like to combine the traditional hand craft and nature to modern building , his design make me feel comfortable but I can’t agree with he want a pond so he just put into a pond , and even a big pond but then the owner is asking for car porch and he said if u want a porch u can find others .If it is for ventilation it have another ways also ,he is already apply green in indoor and outdoor , and he can have a pond but not that big. He also mention about “copy and copy slower and it will become your works” ,I agree with this sentence , copy is just like learning the work from others , study the good of others and take out the bad ,but copy is not definitely copy all , is just apart.
