ORNAMENT AND CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE

People usually think that ornaments do give them a sense of splendid feeling where it always reveals in a personal way as a source of pleasure. In contemporary architecture, the interiors that filled up with vary of decorated furnitures and sculptures is a kind of showing off their power and wealth. In this case, the attraction is more on the personal view and most of it does gain recognition just in a short while. Throughout the generations, people tend to live in a simple constructed building because the ornamentation around the facade doesn't make difference to their daily lifestyle, it doesn't provide function to the used space.

As craftworks has been mechanized from the past that is using handcraft in the modern days, people began to forget the importance of the value of the handcraft work. Besides that, people who involved in the handcraft company, they get low paid but with more working hours which is more worst than the modern workers. In general, decoration makes objects more expensive but despite that it happen that a decorated object, with materials costing the same and demonstrably taking three times as long to produce. To ignore the ornaments will resulting in reduction of working hours and an increase in wages which is a phenomenon that encourage people to pursue simplicity where everything is created meaningfully and functionable. In the past, the architecture building was designed with the influences of the organic forms that is picked from the natural environmental elements therefore it reveals in the architecture elements that is created through personal measurement and the transformation from a natural element to an abstraction way.

Those kind of ornamentation that can be seen on the vernacular architecture is a representative of the local cultural affect, the ornaments itself on the building facade even the interiors do have its own meaning and value. These makes the architecture

building itself more valuable and worth to be preserve and conserve. On the other hand, nowadays the contemporary architecture that obtain ornaments consists no meaning because the elements tend to be more variety, everything can be customized by the owners themselves not like the previous era that the people had to respect the constructed building which had be done by the architects. This is the reason that the contemporary architecture should be undecorated in order to fulfilled the satisfaction and acceptance by the modernity. In contradiction, the modern architecture for example the Barcelona Pavilion that has a sculpture in the building itself, it is an ornamentation and it doesn't has a purpose with no function on it but the whole building without the sculpture it is not meaningful. In my opinion, I think that as long as it will be seen not as a problem of ornament or not ornament, but as a problem a meaning, this phrases actually allows me to realize that everything should be done in a way of functionality that fit the human demands and designed according to the user behaviour therfore it will make the owner to pursue a good lifestyle because what I knew that was, architecture is designed for the human and the environment, if these incorporate, everything will be living peacefully.
